Drew Carey performs a mass wedding at Bob Barker Studios – CBS
Last Friday, an unprecedented event took place on day-time television. Drew Carey, host of the popular American game show ‘The Price Is Right’, performed a mass wedding of dozens of couples in the audience. That’s right! Dozens of couples said “I do” on a game show last week. Some of the contestants were dressed in typical wedding attire, but others were dressed like average contestants.
Right before pronouncing the couples as married, Drew Carey said, “In the big wheel of love, may you always spin a dollar.”
There’s one thing that’s for certain: No one who got married on ‘The Price Is Right’ will forget their wedding day any time soon!
In honor of ‘The Price Is Right’ wedding of the year, I’ve put together several ESL conversation questions to encourage discussion about game shows, getting married, and mass weddings.
1) Have you ever seen ‘The Price Is Right’? Describe the game show.
2) Would you like to be on a game show someday? Which game show?
3) Do you have game shows in your home country? What are they?
4) Do you know anyone who has ever been a contestant on a game show? Did they win anything?
5) Have you ever heard of mass weddings before? Are they held in your country?
6) Would you ever consider getting married during a mass wedding? Why or why not?
7) How would you describe the ideal wedding?
8) What customs are common at weddings in your country?
9) What do the bride and groom typically wear for a wedding in your home country?
10) Who usually performs weddings in your home country? A priest? A pastor? A government official? A family friend?
