How to describe yourself in an interview
Job interviews can be intimidating. Especially when they aren’t in your native language! That’s why it’s important to know key words that can help present yourself in the best possible way. Here are 10 words you should know before your next interview.
Dependable
This means that when you say you’re going to do something, you do it.
Example: My previous boss considered me one of his most dependable employees because I always met deadlines.
Committed
When you say you’re “committed”, you’re saying that you will be loyal to the job and to the company. It gives the impression that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to get a job done.
Example: I am committed to making this company succeed.
Passionate
Future employers want to know that you get excited about the work you do. This interview vocabulary word will express that you have an excitement about your field. Note: Make sure to always follow it with “about” and then the process or field you are talking about. If you just say that you’re passionate, it may convey that you are too emotional.
Example: I am passionate about providing excellent customer service.
Integrity
Integrity is a noun that means you are an honest person who will not compromise ethically.
Example: I consider myself to be a person of integrity. I will always be fair and honest with our clients.
Execute
In the business world, this verb means that you do something well and on time.
Example: I like to be judged on my individual performance and my ability to execute tasks.
Hard-working
This adjective means that you are the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the most productive employee you can be.
Example: Like my father who was a small-business owner, I consider myself to be a hard-working employee.
Adapt
Simply put, this verb means to change or to be flexible to new situations.
Example: I thrive in situations where I need to adapt to new environments.
Team player
Employers want to know that you get along with others. This word will express that you are not just looking out for yourself, but that you can contribute to a collective goal.
Example: I’m a team player because I know that we can achieve much more together than we can alone.
Efficient
This means that you are able to complete tasks in a short amount of time, and with limited budget.
Example: I value finding the most efficient ways to complete a job, because it saves the company time and money.
Methodical
If you are interviewing for a detail-oriented job, you will want to use this word to describe yourself. It means that you pay attention to every single detail of a task.
Example: I am methodical when it comes to numbers. I work in an organized way to make sure nothing gets overlooked.
